Major Points of Interest:
The big vacation information book for Oregon is The Official Travel Guide - Oregon, almost 130-pages of suggested itineraries, resources, description of the major vacationing areas and regions and other useful information if youre planning a vacation. Its available from the Oregon Tourism Commission (775 Summer Street Northeast, Salem OR 97301 - 503-986-0000).
Theyll also send you an assortment of free guides to where-to-stay, so if youre ready to check into a campground or step out of your motorhome for some extra elbow room, you can find some locations in the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guide (800-944-6196), and Where To Stay in Oregon, available from the Oregon Lodging Association or the state tourist office (800-547-7842).
For camping, the Where To Stay in Oregon guide has almost 10-pages of RV park listings with names, addresses, telephone numbers, number of sites, facilities and rates. You can shop around for the best buy in the area you plan on visiting far in advance, then call ahead for reservations.
For road travel around the state, the Official State Road Map covers every corner and opens up into a giant where-to-go and how-to-get-there guide. Also included is a mileage guide between locations. Off The Beaten Freeway is a guide to the states scenic byways including the Columbia River Highway, Pacific Coast Highway, the Rogue-Umpqua Highway and unique tour routes. It includes maps with step-by-step descriptions of towns and area. It also includes the addresses and phone numbers of ten regional visitors associations, each a source of specific information on each area. Many have toll-free numbers you can call from within the state. While youre traveling, you can check up on the summer road construction and winter road conditions and 24-hours a day, 7-days a week by calling 541-889-3999 or 800-977-6368.
Traveling with kids? The Official Oregon Kids Guide is 29-pages of great ideas, including things to do, information on nautical flags, a match the footprints guide for kids in the woods and a maze and coloring page.
