1. Unless otherwise exempt from prescribed requirements of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulation it is an offence to sell, offer for sale, distribute, import or use a standardized means of containment (e.g. propane cylinders) unless it displays all applicable safety marks (e.g. cylinder specification marks) (Section 8 & TDG Act refers).
2. Prior to filling propane cylinders it must be determined:
If the qualification date falls within the proceeding 10 year period: and
if manufactured after 31 December 1992 the cylinder is stamped with a specification mark complying with the Canadian Standards CSA B339-98 (e.g. TC 4BAM).

3. Propane cylinders must not be re-valve or re-stamped unless all work performed at a site certified by Transport Canada for this purpose.
When importing recreation vehicles equipped with propane cylinders, the cylinders must meet the Canadian Standards and display all applicable specification marks (e.g. TC 4BAM16)
Cylinders stamped with the USA specification mark only (e.g. DOT 4BA), manufactured after 31 December 1992, may not be imported into Canada. Cylinders manufactured before 31 December 1992 must have been in use in Canada prior to 01 January 1993.
